Salamaria, or Sal, is a fictional species of Weasel.
Hailing from a dry desert planet, she'd spent her childhood working alongside her father on their families farm. They farmed a fictional crop that lets off a fine dust, known to cause damage to your lungs. Unable to afford protective gear, her father worked without it and eventually fell ill. Following his death, Sals mother fell into a deep depression, eventually leading to her suicide.
Now completely alone, with no way to fend for herself, a 17 year old Sal was forced into a life of crime. Thievery, prostitution, drug runs, all under the careful watch of a crime boss, a harpy eagle named Sasha.
With encouragement from her last living blood relative, a cousin, Sal makes her escape on a hijacked ship to a nearby moon. Here, she is reunited with an old family friend, Tyoma. Tyoma makes a promise to Wyatt, Sal's late father and his late brother-in-arms, to protect Sal. He raises her as her own, and when she's old enough, Sal sets her mind on the idea of bringing down Sasha, the man who had tainted the last remaining years of her childhood...
Putting together a crew of herself, Tyoma, and others wronged by Sashas secretive reign over the galaxy, she sets out on a grand adventure spanning many years! In which the crew endures many wins, and many losses. With the fall of Sasha, and the death of her father figure Tyoma, Sal spends her life wandering the galaxy with her lover, Amani...
- Sasha, then called Eviscero, was originally going to be a woman. I decided the evil he does more suited a man
- I made Sal when I was 13, almost 5 years ago
- Sal has a yearly shed, where her white winter coat grows in
- Tyomas design was originally my girlfriends selfsona
Tyoma is a snow Leopard. At the start of the story, he's in his 40s, and he's in his 50's by the time he dies. He's Sals father figure throughout the story, motivated by a promise to her father (his best friend and brother in arms.) He's a mechanic working from a near-deserted moon, and serves as the main mechanic of the crew, a skill he passes down to Sal. Despite his war-time PTSD, he is a very cheerful and optimistic person. That's where he and Sal differ.
He grew up on a planet that worship numerous gods, with the main gods being the Sun goddess and the fertility goddess. They find procreation to be beautiful, and they heavily regard healthy family dynamics, so it's common to have huge families of countless cousins and uncles. Tyoma left because of a yearning for a more adventurous life, but he visits his home many many times throughout the story.
He's both Sal's father figure and her antithesis, contrasting her pessimistic and grumpy nature with his very contagious joyous nature. He's also a father figure for the youngest members on the crew, Amir (12-22) and Emiliano (14-24). I've made a lot of characters for this universe, but like Sal, Tyomas always been a constant in it. The story wouldn't be the same without him.
Tyomas design, as mentioned in Sals storybook, was originally my girlfriends self sona
He's the second character, besides Sal, to be added to the universe.
Sals universe is very indepth, so i'll try to only ramble about the most important parts to me. Something important to know is the prevelence of space stations. While billions do still live on the many planets throughout the universe, most choose to live on huge expansive space settlements. Cheaper rent, more jobs, and also a common lack of police stations large enough to keep up with the rampant crime rates. Most of the inhabited planets suffer from the effects of polution, with fossil fuels still being the most common kind. Ships and vehicles powered by nuclear energy certainly do exist, but they're immensely expensive, and usually only found on the previously mentioned space-stations.
Because of this, the average life expectancy isn't great. Lung issues are common, alongside cancers, and with the insane population throughout the galaxy, there isnt nearly enough doctors to keep up with everybody. This means that medical bills are pretty crazy, and many rely on local healers that use natural remedies and such.
With the universe being Science fiction, technology of course plays a huge role. This means that most able-bodied folk go into jobs like engineering, computer science, mechanical work, whatnot... though there is a growing interest with the youth in the medical field.
There are many planets that have planned out cultures. One of them is mentioned in Tyoma Petrikovs storybook, the planet Sora. This culture heavily regards naturalism, fertility, and family dynamics. Another character, Amaya, follows a culture heavily inspired east asian cultures and religions, especially Taoism.
I pride myself heavily on giving each character indepth, unique stories.
